Low-traffic shopping streets

To make your visit even more pleasant and relaxed, the city council has decided to ban all traffic from the following shopping streets on Saturdays and on shopping Sundays (every first Sunday of the month) between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.: Zuidzandstraat (except for De Lijn buses), Steenstraat, Geldmuntstraat, Noordzandstraat. Motorised traffic will not be allowed at those times. The city will remain easily reachable and accessible for everyone.

For our day visitors

We urge you to come to Bruges by train, if at all possible. If you do come by car, we would ask you to park in one of the city’s car parks: ‘Station’ or ‘’t Zand’ (located right by the traffic-free area). From the station, De Lijn provides a regular bus service to the city centre and back. The bus stops are within walking distance from the main shopping streets, historical buildings and museums. The bus is free for those who leave their car at the ‘Station’ car park (for a maximum 4 people per vehicle, bus tickets are available in advance at the De Lijn shop on Stationsplein upon presentation of a parking ticket).

For those staying in Bruges

Motorised traffic is not allowed in the shopping streets on he specified days and times. There will be exceptions for visitors who are staying in hotels on the traffic-restricted streets (Hotel Van Eyck, Grand Hotel du Sablon and hotel Acacia). Visitors who do not have accommodation in these streets and who fail to comply with these measures will be identified using number plate recognition and will receive a fine.
