De man die de boot zag, in de lucht (The man who saw the boat, in the air)

The work of art by Jean Bilquin that forms part of the Beaufort Sculpture Park along the Belgian coast.

A canoe with human figures rests on the 10-metre high trestles: the artist reduced them to phantoms, unidentifiable! A little further on, a classical figure stands mysteriously watching. Jean Bilquin is a great believer in classical beauty, and this is portrayed here in a subtle way: the whole thing powerfully symbolises the journey of life, with its highs and lows that are common to us all.
