Strobrug (Stro Bridge)

The Stro Bridge will get any photographer's blood pumping. It serves up a view of a magnificent Bruges panorama in which three canals, a vast sky and a string of façades meet in harmony. On the bridge itself, the shiny railing is the most striking feature, but if you look closely, you'll see that it is flat – unlike the many arched bridges in Bruges. It has the structure of a swing bridge. And that's what it was. In order to allow easy access for ships, all the bridges over the Sint-Annarei and Langerei were replaced with swing bridges in the 18th century. The Stro Bridge is the last silent witness of this. Although the bridge no longer opens, it still connects Spinolarei to Blekersstraat.
