Stoofstraat (Stove Street)
An alley so narrow that you almost walk straight past: that’s Stoofstraat, where you can barely stretch out your arms. But in the 14th and 15th centuries, the atmosphere in Stoofstraat was steamy, to say the least. Here there stood a bathhouse where well-heeled gentlemen and traders came to bathe. And one thing led to another. Because of its bad reputation the bathhouse disappeared from the scene in the mid-16th century. Stoofstraat is now full of little boutiques and workshops, and even an outstanding restaurant.
