Sint-Janshospitaal (St John’s Hospital)

Saint John’s Hospital is one of the oldest hospitals in Europe, dating back to the mid 12th century. Visit the medieval wards, as well as the church and the chapel, and marvel at the impressive collection of archives, art works, medical instruments and seven works of art by Hans Memling, including the famous Ursula Shrine. Also visit the hospital pharmacy and the Diksmuide attic, boasting one of Europe’s oldest and most monumental roof support structures.

  • Attention: Works by Memling temporarily not on display

    Please note that between 26 September and 27 October 2022 (construction of the exhibition) and from 6 February to autumn 2023 (renovation of the museum) the Sint-Janshospitaal will remain closed and Memling's works will temporarily not be on display. Come and admire the Memling collection still this year during the exhibitions Otobong Nkanga and Face to Face with Death.
