Iconic Routes and more
If you'd like to take a more ambitious approach, you can head out on one of the Flemish Iconic Routes, making for – literally – hundreds of kilometres of cycling pleasure. Each iconic cycle route stitches together the best of Flemish scenery along attractive cycle paths and around a central theme. All the iconic cycle routes are fully signposted in two directions. You can therefore choose in which direction you cycle, and where you want to start or finish. Our tips:
Art Cities Route
If you cycle the Art Cities Route (332km), you will pass through Brussels, Leuven, Mechelen, Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges and Ostend. Centuries-old heritage, connected by a network of canals, rivers and old railway tracks, and forming a patchwork quilt of forts, churches, and almost non-stop art.
Coastal Route
Are you looking for the perfect combination of nature, maritime history and culture? And can you stand up to a gust of wind? Do you long for the salty taste of the sea? The Coastal Route (85km) will satisfy your hunger for new horizons. Plan a two-day break for this one and decide on the direction you take when you know where the wind is blowing from. Ahoy there!
Flanders Route
Can’t choose? No problem: this best-of route takes you along the finest highlights from all corners of Flanders. Grease your chain, for the Flanders Route (952km) combines your wildest cycling fantasies into a single experience. From undulating fields through iconic art cities and historic villages to the sea: you only really experience it all from a bike, with your feet planted firmly on the pedals and the wind at your back.
Eurovelo 12: the North Sea cycle route
