Onthaalpaviljoen Gruuthusemuseum (Gruuthuse Museum Reception Pavilion)

It can get very busy at Musea Brugge's reception pavilion at times, as this is where you buy your entrance ticket for the top locations of Gruuthuse Museum and the Museum of the Church of Our Lady. The fresh and well-thought-out design by noAarchitecten from 2019 is a sympathetic nod to the past. Take the series of bays that get systematically smaller the closer they get to the palace. They refer to the Gothic building tradition, but a sharp mind will also spot an origami model in them – and the choice of dark grey steel. Doesn't that harmonise subtly with the slate roofs around it? The inviting pavilion gives the Gruuthuse Palace's inner court its historical seclusion and intimacy back too. A nice example of how old and new can go hand in hand perfectly.
