Kartuizerinnenstraat (Carthusians’ Street)
The Belfry attracts all the attention, but behind it there’s a hidden, secret place: the Carthusians’ Street, named for the nuns who lived here until the end of the 18th century. The convent chapel is now home to the Military Chapel, and commemorates the victims of the two World Wars. The striking commemorative gate at the beginning of the street also remembers the dead of the First World War. Every street in Bruges is filled with its own history.
