In Flanders Fields - The Great War

This guided coach tour takes you on a journey past many war memories from the period 1914-1918. You visit the battlefield at Passchendaele and Tyne Cot, the world’s largest Commonwealth War Graves cemetery. Close by lies Polygon Wood, where Anzac Day is commemorated every year at dawn. The remarkable war monument ‘the Brooding Soldier’ remembers the sacrifice of 2,000 Canadian soldiers during the first German gas attack. The Essex Farm cemetery, where John McCrae wrote the famous poem ‘In Flanders Fields’, is also on the itinerary. After lunch near Ypres, the coach tour crosses the border into France for a visit to the impressive Vimy Memorial. If there is enough time, the coach will return via Hill 60. The strange landscape that you see was created by mines exploded in the tunnels under the hill. In the evening you return to Ypres, where you attend the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate, a daily tribute to the fallen soldiers. Explanation is given in English and French.
