Ezelbrug (Donkey Bridge)
This 17th-century bridge is not in any way related to donkeys. It owers its name to the inn 'Ten Ezele' (At the Donkey's) that was once located close-by. Look down from the bridge. Tiny gardens cling to a row of stately bourgeois houses along Speelmansrei. Romantic gems on a layer of ... silt. Over the centuries, the canals gradually silted up. The soil washed ashore became part of the city's tax land. For a small fee or 'cijns' (tax), residents were allowed to create a garden there. Real miniature gems. The bridge itself is also worth seeing. Covered in flowers, this is the place for a colourful selfie in a fairy-tale setting.
