Dumeryklok (Dumery bell)
The Dumery bell can be seen on the square that shares its name. A tribute to the 18th century bell founder Joris Dumery, who cast the Belfry bells and lived in this neighbourhood. This example also came from the Belfry. The old fire bell is now safely installed in a wooden frame, and as part of certain festivities, it is rung using a foot-operated mechanism. It’s quite a spectacle, since the bell ringer has to climb up onto the frame, and the foot mechanism takes a lot of strength. Come and see!
