Blink and you’ll miss De Garre. This is one of the narrowest alleys in Bruges. The name garre means ‘crack’ or ‘crevice’ in West Flemish. It’s quite a challenge to walk arm in arm here. This former fire lane used to cut through to the canals, for quick access to the water for extinguishing. That passage no longer exists, but the medieval character has been preserved, catapulting you seamlessly back in time. And despite its cramped dimensions, the Garre is home to lots of welcoming little cafés and restaurants.
