Beurs-, Meeting- en Congrescentrum (BMCC) (Bruges Meeting and Convention Centre (BMCC))
An exhibition hall that slides open and becomes one with a town square? In Bruges it is possible. The Bruges Meeting and Convention Centre (BMCC) combines an exhibition hall with an ultramodern congress infrastructure. Bruges planned this state-of-the-art building on the Beursplein, in exactly the same spot as an exhibition hall in the 1960s. In late 2015, the city decided to tear it down and erect a new building to meet the contemporary needs and demands of the exhibition and event sector. The location on the Beursplein remained ideal for this purpose, as meetings in the heart of the World Heritage City of Bruges are irresistible to many organisers. The partnership Souto de Moura - META - CFE was responsible for both designing and implementing the urban renewal project. The main theme? Flexibility. An exhibition and congress at the same time is no problem thanks to the building's handy layout. Sustainability and respect for the past and the environment also characterise the concept. The red brick hints at the historic facades in the city centre and the fifty-year-old beech trees on the square have been preserved. A win-win.
In January 2022, both the building and the surrounding area will be finished and the BMCC will open.
