Boterhuis
Ever seen a butter hall? Then head to Boterhuis in St Jacob's district. An alley that breathes the atmosphere of medieval Bruges. Halfway there, you'll walk under a gatehouse with a round staircase tower. This elegant building became the butter hall after the nearby Eiermarkt (Egg Market) fell into disuse as a sales outlet for butter, cheese and eggs. For convenience, the street was given the same name. Cinephiles will know that Boterhuis is also the entrance to Cinema Lumière. You can reach the cobblestone alley through the covered passageway in the Sint-Jakobsstraat, or walk under the Tudor-style arch in the Naaldenstraat.
