Bruges on the silver screen: a touch of suspense, a dose of romance, an abundance of passion and above all: a happy ending!

 

Films:

  • The Nun's Story (1959):
    Actress Audrey Hepburn, who takes on the role of a West Flemish nursing sister, brings Bruges to life in The Nun's Story.

  • Bruges-La-Morte (1978):
    Based on the novel by Georges Rodenbach, filmed on location in Bruges. With a leading role for the canals.

  • L'Oeuvre Au Noir (1988):
    Belgian-French drama based on the eponymous novel by Marguerite Yourcenar from 1968 in which the Flemish alchemist and surgeon Zénon roams Europe. He is persecuted by the Inquisition for his dissident writings and devilish practices.

  • In Bruges (2008):

  • The Monument's Men (2014):
    In this American war film by and with Georges Clooney, an allied group from the art world are selected, with the approval of American President Franklin D. Roosevelt, to invade Germany and save valuable artistic masterpieces from the Nazis. Bruges plays only a small role, but it is too beautiful not to mention it!

  • Love, Romance & Chocolate (2019):
    Emma and chocolatier Luc compete for Belgium's Royal Chocolatier. The beauty and romance of Bruges inspire unique chocolate combinations, but will their entry win without them losing their hearts?

 

Series:

  • The Day (2018):
    A small town is startled by a bank robbery that got out of hand. During one day, an extremely exciting cat and mouse game unfolds between the police and hostage-takers. Filmed on and around Beursplein in Bruges!

  • The White Queen (2013):
    This ten-part BBC drama series about the battle for the throne at the end of the 15th century was partly filmed in Bruges. You will recognize the Gothic Hall, Church of Our Lady, Potterierei, Jerusalem Chapel and the Basilica of the Holy Blood. Download the moviemap.
